Labor Unions

Today I was reading an article on how labor unions have progressed over time. It seems as though about 6 percent of the population is part of a labor union. I am part of a labor union. I am part of the coal mining union. In this union we fight for things to improve working conditions. I have previously stated in blogs before that we fight to improve these conditions. However, I will not be willing to go on strike to prove the point of the union. At this point in time I can't loose my job so close to the holiday season. My union of coal miners is about 150 people strong. Well that's all for now until next time, see you then.

Electrification

Today my neighbor told me alllll about Electrification. He told me it used alternative energy sources to create power. Things such as water, wind, the sun, and other natural resources are all harvested and made into electricity. All of these energy sources are going to be a good way to harvest electricity. The goverment and the rest of the town are having a vote next week to see if we should allow wind turbines to be built in our town. There isn't much out here, and there is a lot of space so I don't see why not. Although I have heard that they make it a little bit colder, which will be nice in the summer but horrible in the winter. I have also heard that they make loud noises even throughout the night. Ah, oh well, it's just something I'm going to have to live with. In the long run it will help to save our planet. Well that's all for now until next time, see you then.

Highway

Today the sheriff announced that there were going to be highways built around our community. These highways are going to make traveling from state to state much easier. It is said that these highways are used to transport not only goods but weapons. Although I do not have a car to drive on the highway I am excited to see what it looks like. I heard that cars go as fast as 55 miles per hour on the highway. The sheriff said that there was going to be a highway build just 3 miles away from Coolsville. I might not be able to use the highway but maybe my kids will one day be able to. Maybe if I ask my neighbor with the model-T car, he will take me out for a spin on the highway. World Fair

Today I heard news that there was going to be a World's Fair in 1939. It really seems like something special and it is going to be held here in the United States. It is a way for all of the countries of the world to come together as one. I'm not really sure how their going to get here though, considering half of them are around the world. Boy, I sure wouldn't mind going to one of those fairs. If my family had a little extra money saved a way I'd be on that first trip out there. Also I heard they were collecting things to put in a time capsule. It got me thinking, if I ever had a time capsule what would I put in it? Well that's all for now until next time, see you then.

Worker's On Strike

I woke up bright and early this morning ready to go to work just like any other day. But when I got to the coal mine it was as though half of the men who worked had gone missing. I heard all these talks about them going on strike and such, but I never thought that they would actually just do it. They are fighting to get us all better wages and working conditions. I would really like to go on strike with these men, but I got three kids and a wife to feed. I need to be making money so that we can buy food and keep our home.
All the men are going to be mad at me for not going on strike with them, but there is nothing I can do about it. I am hoping that enough people go on strike so the owner's will give in and just pay us a little extra. The bad part about this whole situation is, coal mining isn't very hard. And you dont need to be particularly smart to do it. So I fear that the boss might fire all the men that go on strike and just hire new people willing to work for the wages the owner's give. That would be awfully bad if the owner did that though because many of my friends are the one's in the strike or even leading the strike. The last thing I need is to loose all of my friends to some new comers that are willing to get paid minimal amounts of money.

Captains of Industry

People like JP Morgan, Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Mellon are all captains of industry that are helping us through this tough time. All of these men have created jobs and helped with the industrialization of the United States. The demand of products has increased and the prices for these products has decreased. All the while our economy has slowly been getting better and better. Some people think these guys are robber barons, but I beg to differ. These people have helped build our country and are making the future of America look bright.

Thanksgiving

Hello friends! It's finally that time of year again. Today is the wonderful day of Thanksgiving. Not many people know how or why the first thanksgiving actually began, but thats a different story for a different day. Today my family and I will be feasting on the most bountiful meal we can make. My wife has prepared a large turkey, one just big enough to feed the whole family. To go with the turkey we have stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, beans, and rolls. When we eat dinner, there is only two chairs at the table. So my wife and I sit in the seats while the kids stand around the table and get what they can. We are very excited about the Thanksgiving this year because we are going to a neighbors house down the street. They have a large dining hall made for up to 15 people! It is quite impressive (this is also the family that owns the Model-T). Today I make sure my family says what they are thankful for, and realize all of the things that they do have.
