Whippin' The Model T

Today I got to go for a ride in the new Model T. It was really fun but quite frankly it was scary. There isn't anything to hold you down in the seat and then seats only go up about 6 inches. You really feel like your about to fall out at any turn. The fastest we went was about 35 miles per hour. But when you really get that thing going it can go up to about 45 miles per hour. We aren't allowed to take the car out in busy sections of town. I really wanted to drive that thing but my neighbor said no. He said he would spend a few nights each week teaching me how to drive it so that one day I could drive it, and he can be worry free knowing that I won't crash it. YEEHAW, that car sure makes me wild. Thats all for now until next time, see you then.

Model T

Today my rich neighbor that lives down the street got a brand new Model T car. It cost about 800 dollars. My neighbor who bought it is working in the car factory right now making about 5 dollars a day so he can afford a nice car like that. But me on the other hand, I'm barely making half of that a day. The car was all black with big white rubber tires on it. They were so small they looked like they could belong on a bicycle. To start the car, there is a hand crank in the front. Our neighbor said that we could go for a ride in the car, but he is the only one allowed to drive it, on account of all the pedals and such. Well, thats all for now until next time, see you then.

New Facility

There has been a new facility put in Coolsville. It uses something called scientific management theories. Although I'm not really sure what it is, the man who was telling us all about it sure seemed to believe in it. He told us that we would make working more efficient which would turn out better products faster. He said if we started to really get the hang of things after about 6 months their is a possibility that our salaries could be raised. The only thing that makes me nervous is that one day I might have a job and the next I might not. It all depends on whether or not they need workers that day. It is rather risky to leave the coal mine but this could be an amazing opportunity for me and my family to make some money. That is all for now until next time, see you then.

Steel Plant

HUGE NEWS! A new steel plant is planned to be built in the city closest to Coolsville. Although the city is about 50 miles away this is great news. The plant is going to need new people to work at it so some people may leave the mines. Also people may move out to Coolsville because it is closer to the city than their old town. Maybe the population of this city will actually get bigger for once. If the new plant is put in the city their is a good chance that I will leave the mines and start working at the plant. The reason being is the mining conditions are so bad and causing me bad health, that it will be nice to get a change of pace for once. Rural Ol' Coolsville

Here in the town of Coolsville there is a small population. So small, that when a baby is born or someone dies, the town sheriff goes out to the "Entering Coolsville" sign and changes the population with a can of paint. It isn't very often that people move to Coolsville from other towns or cities. Here in Coolsville we got the mine, the local bakery,the barber, the sheriff department, and the local store. There isn't much to do here but that doesn't stop us from having a good time. If there was one thing I could change about lil ol' Coolsville it would be the overall wealth. You see, many of us here work in the mine and we get paid just the minimum amount and nothing more. It's hard to live comfortably knowing that you have to support a large family. In other cities the populations are so much larger. My barber told me that most of the people moving into the cities now-a-days are from Europe. I don't really mind new comers but I wonder why they never make it out here. Its quite a nice place to live. That's all for now until next time, see you then.

Reforms

A bunch of my coal mining friends and I have decided that we are going to form a union. So far there is only about 10 people in it, but give it time and I know it will grow much larger. We currently are fighting for better working conditions and more money. We get paid an unreasonable amount of money and put our lives on the line everyday. Our health benefits are next to nothing and we are finally sick and tired of it. Each day from 8am to about 5pm my co-workers and I are in a dark, dirty, stinky mine. The coal really starts to get into your lungs and causes serious problems. This is the only work that I can find around this place, and I really love the people here but sooner or later I'm going to have to move so I can make more money to support my family and better my health. Without me my wife would have to raise three kids on her own and get a job which is almost unheard of. After we gather up a few more people to join our union we plan on going on strike. Telegraph

Just yesterday I recieved word that there had been a new invention called the telegraph. The mayor recieved the first telegram that Coolsville has ever seen. It was sent by a neighboring town. I'd really like to get a look at this machine and see what it is all about. Unfortunately I've been told that these machines will not be allowed for public use and probably will never be sold to the public. They will be used by the goverment, post office, military and other important people that are not the citizens of Coolsville. That's alright though, I don't need no big stinkin' machine anyways. I got everything I need right her in the town of Coolsville with my family and friends. That's all for now until next time.
